6ix Art Outdoor Exhibit
From June 27 to July 16, the festival is excited to present a one-of-a-kind art exhibit titled 6IX Art Outdoors. The free-of-charge art installation along Gristmill Lane will feature 13 unique statues, standing over 8 feet tall, painted by some of Canada’s most talented multicultural artists.

Mission Statement

Mara Cataldi – Curator of 6ix Art Outdoor

The ‘6ix Art Outdoor ’ is a constellation of ideas and messages: a place that opens onto a larger cultural and entertaining space, an exhibition that moves through multiple cultures and critically engages emerging ideas and pushes the boundaries of the definition of the art itself. The way that people experience arts and culture is changing, and so too is the type of creative and educational experiences they enjoy. We provide an inspiring and enriching visitor experience that celebrates artistic excellence by thoughtfully engaging a broad group of emerging and established artists and prioritizing diversity in all areas. The “6ix Art Outdoor” will serve as a public space with the goal of fostering intercultural and multicultural dialogue by promoting a more active engagement and awareness within the communities through the use of visual art. This exhibit embraces the value of heritage showcased not only through the human-shape statue but, most importantly, through artists and the cultural richness they embody: stories, ideas, emotions, desires, dreams, and hopes. We are aware that an exhibit plays only a small part in the complex process of promoting art, integration and the respectful coexistence of different communities and cultural practices. Nonetheless, I sincerely believe that this contribution has an extraordinary potential to challenge prejudice and stereotypes as well as create shared spaces and a sense of belonging.

The Art of Banksy Exhibition Wednesday, June 13 - Wednesday, July 11 @ 213 Sterling Road, Toronto Tickets go on sale May 12 at www.banksyexhibit.com Toronto, ON – On Wednesday, June 13, Toronto welcomes the North American Premiere of "The Art of Banksy", an acclaimed showcase featuring 80 original works associated with, arguably, the most intriguing and talked-about artist in modern history. "The Art of Banksy" has already generated excitement in Melbourne, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv and Auckland. Now Toronto, having beat out both Athens and Stockholm, steps up to host this spectacular exhibit. Banksy, whose identity is the art world's biggest secret, is an enigmatic artist and world-recognized political activist. His graffiti-influenced stencil technique, often combined with anti-establishment slogans, is immediately recognizable and never fails to generate immediate attention. Banksy's various works, which in addition to paintings, also include sculptures and special displays, are seen on city walls, bridges and streets throughout the world. "The Art of Banksy", curated by Steve Lazarides, the artist's former agent, displays the world's largest collection of Banksy's works. Included in the exhibition are the iconic "Balloon Girl", ranked in 2017 as "The United Kingdom's number one favourite artwork", "Flag Wall", an urbanized take on the famous picture of soldiers raising the U.S. flag at Iwo Jima, "Laugh Now", a witty piece depicting a foreboding message, and many other pieces, no less compelling and equally thought-provoking. "This is a one-of-a-kind exhibition. You will never again have the opportunity to see this many of Banksy's works in one place. Once the exhibition is over, the artwork will be returned to art collectors around the world, and the chances that they will be displayed together again in the future are extremely slim," says Steve Lazarides. The Toronto exhibition will be mounted in a raw space at 213 Sterling Road (Lansdowne Metro stop), an area described by BlogTO as "Toronto's next big thing" and "a neighbourhood for art – contemporary art," with neighbouring businesses including the new location for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Anansi Press, Henderson Brewing and Drake Commissary. This prestigious exhibition of originals – all privately owned by collectors – offers a rare opportunity for Toronto to enter Banksy's world. "Starvox Exhibits is pleased to bring to Toronto, the North American Premiere of "The Art of Banksy". I am proud to be able to have a collection of this calibre as the first exhibit under our new business division and in association with Live Nation," says Corey Ross, President & CEO, Starvox Exhibits. "Toronto, with its thriving visual arts scene is for us, the perfect city to premiere "The Art of Banksy" in North America," says Michel Boersma, Senior Vice President Family Entertainment & Theatre, Live Nation. "Together with Steve Lazarides, we have been able to assemble the largest collection of Banksy art ever exhibited, which is fitting for a world-class city like Toronto." Bell Media is the official media sponsor of "The Art of Banksy" exhibition. Worldwide demand for "The Art of Banksy" is off-the-charts. Consequently, the exhibit is scheduled to be in Toronto for 4 weeks only. Advance tickets are available through American Express "Front of the Line" beginning Monday, May 7. General tickets go on sale beginning Saturday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. and are available online at www.banksyexhibit.com. A limited quantity of tickets will also be available on site at 213 Sterling starting June 13. Ticket price is $35.00. Celebrated Toronto Art Fair February 23-26, 2017 Exhibition Place, Toronto

Celebrated Toronto Art Fair Fetes a Fruitful Decade

TORONTO, ON (February 1, 2017) – Calling all art enthusiasts! Artist Project celebrates its 10th year with a four-day art fair hosted from February 23-26, 2017 at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto. The overarching theme of this year’s fair is Birthday Party, connecting attendees with collectors, curators, gallerists and designers to revel in shoppable artwork from over 250 contemporary Canadian and international artists.

The fair debuts with the Opening Night Party, one of Canada’s most popular art world soirees. Guests will be greeted by a brilliant watercolour mural, The Tenth Tide, an impressive 100-foot-long front entrance installation by L.A.- based artist Tracy Hiner (see teaser at left). Bold in color and texture, the feature installation explores how paint interacts with itself and the swirling beauty it creates. The scale of the artwork allows the viewer to intimately experience the work’s depth. Tracy has created an exceptional welcome to the creativity which beckons beyond. Additional new and electrifying artists include printmaker Shogo Okada, painter Mel Gausden, photographer Simon Willms, painter Benny Bing, and textile artist Sam Pedicelli.

Installation Zone A primary Artist Project 2017 attraction is the Installation Zone, featuring artists working within a variety of mediums. A highlight includes the moving sculpture, The Girl with Paper Boats, created by past exhibiting artist, architect, and award winning sculptor, W.W. Hung. This Canadian educated sculptor and dance enthusiast is inspired by the human body’s language of movement in space.

Art Chats Artist Project’s Art Chats Seminar Series returns this year with a thrilling expert line-up sharing their knowledge from varied creative community sectors. Guests will be enlightened by this popular seminar series, offering a range of interactive talks hosted by foremost minds, featuring: current Stylecooler Host and former House & Home editor, Mark Challen; Manager of StreetARToronto StART), Lilie Zendel; arts and culture writer and The Art Market dynamo, Kate Barron; experts Manny Neubacher and Anya Shor of The Art Stylists; talented Artist Project alum Erin Loree; and more. HALFLIFE, 2014 Nuit Blanche Toronto

HALFLIFE, 2014 Nuit Blanche Toronto

Shasti O’Leary-Soudant – Buffalo, USA

Performance Art

In a narrative worthy of sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick, Shasti O’Leary-Soudant creates a theatre of spectacle based on the notion of contagion. The artist empowers one hundred glowing ”carriers” to disperse throughout the city and “test” willing participants for the HALFLIFE “virus” with invisible UV reactive ink markers, peaking in a mass convergence on the Square.

art

HALFLIFE comments on the presence of fear in society around apocalyptic events, but also on human connection, in both desired and inescapable forms.

Shasti O’Leary-Soudant is a multimedia artist, designer and writer. She has one child, one spouse, one house, one incorporated business and no pets. In her art practice, she uses a wide range of media and material to talk about hidden forces, immersive experiences, transformation, vanity, sexuality and the ways in which we edit the self in reaction to culture, politics and emotion. She has travelled extensively, exhibited internationally, speaks fluent second grade French, and lives, works and teaches in Buffalo, NY.

Global Rainbow

Yvette Mattern – Berlin, Germany

Light Installation

Global Rainbow is poetic, magical and powerful. A high specification laser light projection beaming in parallel horizontal lines creates a natural perspective horizon arc simulating a natural rainbow arc with a trajectory of up to 60 km.

From Chinatown to one of Toronto’s most iconic buildings, the CN Tower, Global Rainbow blazes through Toronto’s night sky. It encompasses the skyline and its viewing perspective is as ephemeral as viewing a natural rainbow. This monumental installation is visible from all exhibition areas. As a powerful and luminescent symbol of peace and hope, it embraces geographical and social diversity.
